Pendle Council proposes religious motion condemning Israel for recent violence

Councillors of Pendle Borough Council are being asked condemn only Israel, in a heavily biased religous motion proposed by former Council leader, Mohammed Iqbal (Lab).

The proposal, which is set to be voted on at Pendle's Annual Council meeting on Thursday May 20, 2021, Cllr M. Iqbal apportions all the blame for the recent violence in the Palestine/Israel conflict on Israel, and blissfully ignores any wrongdoing by the Hamas government or Muslim extremists.

Cllr M. Iqbal wants the Council to approve the following motion:

"HUMAN RIGHTS IN PALESTINE

- Council notes with great concern the blatant disregard for human rights by Israeli forces in the occupied Palestinian lands with aerial/ground attacks against innocent civilians .

- Council notes the state sanctioned forced evictions of Palestinians from their homes

- Council notes the silence from HM government in speaking out against the illegal government sponsored attacks against civilians.

Council resolves to

- Show solidarity with the people of Palestine during their struggle for freedom

- Write to the Prime Minster & Foreign Secretary demanding immediate condemnation by HM government against the actions of Israeli forces.

- Ask HM government to raise this at the United Nations Security Council and seek sanctions against the government of Israel"

Cllr Mohammed Iqbal
The heavily biased motion has been proposed by Muslim councillors in support of Muslims in another effort to mix religion with politics, in an issue that has nothing to do with Pendle.

It also fails to take into account the whole story of the conflict or the view of the Israelis, nor the fact that many Pendle residents do not share the view that Israel is the aggressor in this situation.

Many Pendle residents also do not want to see their Council as a religious mouthpiece.

If you wish to contact your local councillor to share your view on the motion before it is voted on, please find their contact details here...     https://www.pendle.gov.uk/councillors/name
