Jonathan Hinder is Pendle & Clitheroe's new MP

Labour's Jonathan Hinder is the new MP for Pendle & Clitheroe, replacing former Conservative MP, Andrew Stephenson.

In the 2024 General Election, Labour's Jonathan Hinder beat the Conservatives' Andrew Stephenson, who had been Pendle's MP for 14 years, by 902 votes.

Posting on his Facebook page after his first day at the Houses of Parliament he said:

"An incredible privilege to be here.
Spending the first few days learning about how Parliament works, so that I can be the best possible representative for Pendle & Clitheroe.

I am in the process of establishing my office, so please expect a delay in responding to messages. But you can now contact me through my new email address: jonathan.hinder.mp@parliament.uk"

Labour celebrate the win in Pendle & Clitheroe election

In his speech following the election result, the new MP for Pendle & Clitheroe said:

"Thankyou acting returning officer. Thank you to all the staff involved in this election, here in Pendle and in the Ribble Valley. And the police for safeguarding our precious democracy.

I want to pay tribute to my fellow candidates, it takes courage to put your head above the parapet and stand for election. I respect each of you for putting yourselves forward.

Most notably, I want to pay tribute to Andrew. You've worked hard for Pendle for 14 years, and I know from speaking to thousands of voters across Pendle, how many people you've helped. And I wish you well for the future.

I want to thank my campaign team, frontline and backroom. We may not have the activists that other areas have, but that just makes what we've done all the more remarkable. You've all worked so hard and I'm so proud of the positive campaign we've run together. You deserve this victory.

Most of all, thank you to the voters of Pendle and Clitheroe, who put their trust in me to be their voice in Westminster. I know many of you have voted Labour for the first time in your life, and it's up to me, and the Labour government that has been elected tonight, to repay your faith with real action to improve your lives.

And whether you voted for me or not, it's my job, it's our job, to deliver for you and your family, to put politics back in the service of the public and that is what we will do.

I know that there are no quick-fixes to the deep-rooted problems our country faces, but tonight is a turning point in the history of our country. The Labour government elected tonight will stop the chaotic politics of the last few years, and will start to rebuild our country, and I can't wait to get to work serving the people of Pendle and Clitheroe. Thank you."
