Major Colne housing development set for approval

Pendle Borough Council's Policy & Resources Committee meets on Thursday 30th January, where two major planning applications will be considered.

The first, for 79 houses off Harrison Drive, Colne, is set for approval after gaining support from the Colne & District Committee earlier in the month.

Questions have been raised about the increase of traffic and availability of parking spaces, but traffic flow monitoring showed sufficient capacity on the road for the new development, despite contrary accounts from local residents.

The developer, PEARL, (a company comprising of Pendle Borough Council and Barnfield Construction), is also recommended by Pendle Council not to make any contributions to the NHS or local schools, because this would undermine the profitability of the scheme.

A compulsory purchase of number 62 Harrison Drive would be required, to demolish it and create access to the new development.

Another application for 98 houses off Marsden Hall Road is set to be deferred after the Nelson Committee asked for further information about the plans submitted.

Members of the public who wish to speak at the meeting must contact Jane Watson by Thursday at 12 noon on 01282 661648.
