Lord Greaves calls disciplinary hearing "a farce" as he is found guilty of breaching conduct rules

Lord Tony Greaves, has been found guilty of breaching the Councillor's Code of Conduct at a disciplinary hearing panel on Monday (27th January).

The 77-year-old Liberal Democrat peer was told that calling a member of the public a "Nazi", at a Council meeting in August 2019, was unacceptable.

Speaking in his own defence, Lord Greaves repeated his claim that he considered Tommy Robinson a Neo-Nazi and that anyone who supports him is a Neo-Nazi supporter. He said his comments were reasonable and justified, and tried to deflect the charge by blaming others for "stirring up hate", "division" and "Islamaphobia."

Actions available to the Panel
Monitoring Officer, Philip Mousdale said none of that was relevant to the charge of breaching Pendle's Code of Conduct.

Lord Greaves refused to apologise and said the Code of Conduct was "wrong", and called the hearing a "farce" and a "kangaroo court".

Despite his criticism and contempt for the panel, the Council and its Code of Conduct, the Councillors and Independent Person chose the most lenient punishment possible from the options available.

A notice will go on the Pendle Borough Council website and Press Release will be sent out.
