PROFILE Pendle & Clitheroe Candidate #2: Jonathan Hinder (Labour Party)

WHO IS JONATHAN HINDER?

Jonathan Hinder is the Labour party candidate for Pendle & Clitheroe in the 2024 UK General Election. Jonathan grew up in Downham and attended Clitheroe Grammar School from 2007-2009 before heading to Oxford to study History and Politics between 2009-2012.

From 2013-2022 he was a police officer in London, moving up to the rank of Inspector.

He left policing in 2022 after becoming disillusioned with the force stating: "I know that policing cannot solve entrenched socioeconomic problems – freeing myself to campaign on wider issues such as housing, education and jobs was the reason I called time on my career as an officer."

Jonathan previously stood unsuccessfully in one local election:

2023 St Mary's: Ribble Valley

WHAT DOES HE SAY?
"After graduating from University, I joined the police and worked shifts on the frontline as a Constable, Sergeant and Inspector.

Since leaving the police service, I have been an active campaigner across Pendle and Ribble Valley, being a key member of the Ribble Valley Labour team which secured our best ever result in the 2023 local elections.

My policing experience has given me a clear understanding of what needs to change in our country. We need a Labour government to rebuild our public services and shape an economy that works for ordinary people.
I would be a strong, northern voice for Pendle and Clitheroe in Westminster, speaking up to rescue our NHS, rebuild neighbourhood policing, secure green investment to create good jobs, and deliver proper public transport.

I have committed my life to public service - and it would be a privilege to work full-time to improve people's lives in Pendle, Clitheroe and across Britain.

If you want to help Labour win this key marginal seat of Pendle and Clitheroe, please get in touch - I'd love to hear from you."

PENDLE INSIDER Q&A:

Pendle Insider got in touch with Jonathan's Campaign Manager, Karl Barnsley, but he said they were too busy to respond to our questions.

WHAT ELSE DOES HE SAY?

"My story
I grew up in Downham, at the foot of Pendle Hill, and live in Clitheroe. I went to school in Clitheroe, before going on to study History and Politics at university. After graduating, I joined the police, working on the frontline as a PC, sergeant and inspector.

Since leaving the police service in 2022, I have been an extremely active campaigner in Pendle, Ribble Valley and across East Lancashire. I was a key member of the Ribble Valley Labour team which secured our best ever result in last year’s local elections, gaining seven seats and depriving the Tories of overall control.

Why I’m standing
I know from my experience on the policing frontline that we need a Labour government to transform our economy and rebuild our public services. I would be a strong, northern voice for Pendle and Clitheroe in Westminster, speaking up to secure great jobs, quicker access to healthcare, and first-class public services for our area.

I have committed my life to public service - and it would be a privilege to work full-time to improve people’s lives in Pendle, Clitheroe and across Britain."
