Pendle Council to reduce Council Tax for terminally ill

The Executive Committee of Pendle Council has agreed to implement a reduction of Council Tax for those with a terminal illness.

Councillor Yasser Iqbal (PTI) initially raised the motion at a previous Full Council and the matter was referred to the Executive for full approval.

Cllr Yasser Iqbal questioned the wording of the motion which referred to a 'reduction' in Council Tax, rather than his preferred 'exemption'.

Karen Spencer, Director of Resources explained the rationale and reasoning for the use of the word “reduction” in the document which had come from learning how to best introduce a scheme from Manchester City Council that had introduced a similar scheme some time ago.

Cllrs Ash Sutcliffe (Con) and Sarah Cockburn-Price (Con) both spoke in support of the proposed new policy.
